Overview
The ATOM-ID GEN2 UHF RFID Headlight Tag is a battery-free tag designed for use with Atomic RFID’s ATOM20 Long Range RFID Reader, ensuring consistent gate and barrier access. Follow these instructions for proper installation and placement to maximize performance and durability.
Best Placement Practices
- Headlight Mounting (Preferred): Place the tag on the headlight, off-center from the brightest area to avoid light interference—ideal for best reception.
- Windshield Option: Mount horizontally on the windshield, at least 2 inches from any metal (frame, wipers, etc.)—the further from metal, the better the signal.
- Orientation: Always mount the tag horizontally—vertical placement reduces performance.
- Wiper Clearance: Be sure to position the tag outside the windshield wiper path to prevent damage.
- Same-Side Alignment: If possible, align the tag on the same side of the vehicle as the reader’s antenna for optimal read range.
Installation Steps
- Test Before Mounting: Temporarily tape the tag in your chosen spot—headlight or windshield. Turn the headlight on and test with the ATOM20 Reader to confirm a strong read. Adjust if the signal weakens near bright light.
- Clean the Surface: Wipe the mounting area (headlight or windshield) with a clean cloth to remove dirt or grease—ensures a solid bond.
- Mount the Tag: Peel the adhesive backing and press the tag firmly into place. Note: Once mounted, removal will destroy the tag—double-check placement first.
- Protect the Tag: Apply the provided clear adhesive tape over the entire tag to shield it from weather, car washes, and headlight glare—keeping the chip safe and secure.
